I really appreciated your article. I too believe that most government workers want to do a good job for their fellow citizens. I haven’t met one yet that I’ve felt otherwise about. We cannot do without them. When DOGE came through with the chainsaw massacre method of eliminating people I was, and still am quite angry about it.

Thanks, Gary. I agree with Laura S completely. You are so articulate and I enjoy reading your articles, and great photos too!

Thanks Gary,

Well said. It would be great if more could read this story. Might you consider submitting a version if it to the PT Leader?

Thanks for the suggestion, Dale. I will see what I can do. I'd need to shorten it for the letter length requirements -- or perhaps The Leader would take it as an op-ed.

Yes, either. Such a great message. I remember the first time I met a Seattle council member years ago in her office. I don’t recall what issue I wanted to discuss. It was just the two of us, and as she described her job to me, I came away with a deep sense of gratitude for her willingness to make time to talk with me, and with the realization that here was a true public servant. I’ve experienced that same feeling in my dealings over the years with many in local government who’ve helped me with a range of issues, including folks here on our city’s staff.

Gary, thank you for this thoughful comment. I share the same opinion about publc servants and local goverment. Most if not ALL of the people I met in state and local government where working in good faith for the common good. Before I began my career as a public official I really did not have a vantage point that allowed me to see how government functions, so I just didn't know much other than what I had read in the papers. I came away with a deep respect for the people who keep the systems going. There are a lot of elements that come together to support our municipal functions and one can only assume that is true at the federal level. This is why the hollowing out and corruption of our national government is so very disturbing. Thank you for continuing to write and share your commentary.

Effective writing is a talent. When those who write well do so while exercising due diligence in their coverage of the subject matter, we readers become better citizens. Gary Larson's post is a prime example of that principal. We to often forget we vote every day by our actions as consumers of goods and information. When we chose not to purchase products who ads support philosophies we oppose, we are voting. When we respond to articles like this one with our support, we are voting. When we take to the streets with our hand-made signs in either support or in protest of our leadership's actions or inactions, we are voting. When we sit on our hands and do nothing, we are also voting.
